IV Edition 2021 – Marine Forests: sustainability drivers and threats

The 4th Fortaleza’s Austral Spring School took place between September 13 and 15, 2021, this time held jointly with the 2nd Floripa Spring InternationalEco-School in Sustainability, in a totally virtual format.

Aiming at a warm welcome to the UN Decade of Oceans and Decade of Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), researchers and teachers from different nations, coastal regions, seas, lands, and oceans discussed the future of marine forests, our broadest set of ecosystems, as well as their interactions across different landscapes, uses, and customs. The ocean, its biodiversity, and its functioning must be part of our lives, our present, and our future.

The Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), the Federal University of Ceará (UFC/Labomar) and the University of Salento (Italy), in cooperation with the University of Algarve (Portugal) (partners of the Capes PrInt program), offered an event in which biodiversity patterns, eco-evolutionary directions and future trends were discussed, supporting the application of SDG14 and the sustainable management of different marine forest goods and services. After each round of lectures, round tables were held, allowing an active exchange of ideas, opinions and perspectives, bringing students and researchers to the center of the discussion and development of tangible solutions to the main problems raised during the presentations.

The official language of the event was English.
