I Edition 2018 – Climate Change and Marine Conservation
The 2018 edition was held from September 10th to 14th, themed Climate Change and Marine Conservation. The course was taught in English, with the presence of renowned professors and researchers from the United States, the Netherlands, and Brazil. They addressed issues related to climate change, its impact on the oceans, and the economic and ecological repercussions on society. Among the invited professors were Reindert Haarsma, from the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, and Jerry Miller, from the White House Office of Ocean Science and Policy (United States). Professors Helena Matthews-Cascon, from the Biology Department of the UFC, Edmo Campos, visiting professor at LABOMAR, and Eduardo Sávio, current president of FUNCEME, also taught in the course. Prof. Reindert is a specialist in the study of the impacts of climate change on ocean circulation and the effects of this phenomenon on global climate, including changes in rainfall. Prof. Jerry Miller is a renowned expert on formulating societal strategies to address climate change, having been the ocean policy advisor to former US President Barack Obama. The school was financially supported by the Graduate Programs in Geography, Fisheries Engineering, Law and Geology at the UFC. Besides these graduate programs, the school also had the support of the Pró-Reitoria de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação, the Fundação Cearense de Meteorologia e Recursos Hídricos (FUNCEME) and the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES).

- Dr. Reinder Haarsma. PhD in Meteorology; Senior researcher at the Royal Netherland Institute for Meteorological Institute (KNMI); a world class specialist in the studies of climate change impacts on the ocean circulation and the feedback on the weather system;
- Dra. Helena Matthews-Cascon, PhD in Zoology; Full Professor of Biological Oceanography, Federal University of Ceará (UFC);
- Dr. Eduardo Sávio Passos, PHD in Civil and Environmental Engineering;
- Dr. Edmo Campos, PHD in Physical Oceanography.
